"is it still cultural appropriation if I ask my white best friend to wear a sari and bindi and bangles and she does and looks gorgeous while wearing them?"

nope! it isn’t because you are the one who is asking someone to take part in your culture…you want to share the culture and anyone saying that’s not right can step back and shut up. the issue with cultural appropriation people don’t understand is that sure, you’re removing the cultural identity from a practice or custom or piece of clothing…but you’re also asserting a sort of power that says you have as much right to this history as someone born into the culture does. you, as a desi person, have the full right to ask someone to stay out of your cultural heritage OR ask them to step into it! the power lies with you - you are the one who makes the rules and it should stay that way.
